Green Point Guide

Located between Table Bay and Signal Bay, Green Point is popular with Cape Town’s young and trendy population. It is often called the Soho of Cape Town. Accommodation options here seem to cater to two distinct and very different groups of travellers. Close to the city centre, chain hotels are available for those on business while stylish, boutique hotels and hostels provide rooms for those on holiday, looking to experience the individuality of the Green Point area.

Top Things in Green Point

First-time visitors to Cape Town should take a walk up to the top of the Lion's Head Mountain to enjoy the spectacular views over Green Point and the rest of the city.

One of the oldest buildings in the area is the 19th century Green Point Lighthouse, still open to the public and situated on the pleasant seaside promenade.

Sports fans should take a tour around the impressive Cape Town Stadium, home to many of the biggest matches in the 2010 World Cup, or even see a match there if the timing is right.

Green Point Hotels

The area's proximity to the city centre, as well as some of the main tourist attractions, means that Green Point accommodation options here are divided between those for business travellers and those for tourists. Chain hotels for those on business rub shoulders with cheap hotels in Green Point, and hostels aimed at independent travellers attracted by the area's lively reputation.

Parks and the Great Outdoors

The huge Green Point Urban Park is the perfect place to get away from the city and enjoy some outdoor activities. Open to the public every day, you can walk through the landscaped gardens or take some outdoor exercise in the Cape Town sun. There are even botanical gardens within the park where experts have planted dozens of indigenous plants and flowers.
