The Apartheid Museum housed in a modernist concrete structure uses a variety of displays to powerfully convey the chilling history of apartheid. The displays use a medley of blown-up photographs, artefacts, newspaper clippings, audio clips and film footage, to bring home to the apartheid system introduced by the white elected National Party government in 1948 transforming 20 million people into second class citizens.
Upon arrival, visitors are given a card according to their race and must then enter the exhibition through an appropriate portal. After passing through the exhibits, the visitor then exits into a garden to bring home the bliss of freedom.
