Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
These delightful gardens on the western shores of the Emmarentia Dam form a major haven to escape the bustle of Jo'burg. They are a popular spot for residents to go walking, jogging, windsurfing or canoeing on the lakes or just have picnics on the manicured lawns.
Established in 1968, the gardens are home to over 30,000 trees including cork oaks, English oaks, Californian redwoods and silver birches. There's also a rose garden and a herb garden with specimens of items used by traditional healers, along with arbours, statues, fountains, and ponds.
