Mpumalanga Guide

Set in the northeast of South Africa, the Mpumalanga region is one of the country's top tourist destinations, its close proximity to Kruger National Park making it a major draw.

In a region the size of Mpumalanga there is an enormous variety of accommodation to be had, from luxury hotels and game lodges, top-level self-catering accommodation, and wonderful little bed and breakfasts dotted throughout the region. Visitors are sure to find something suitable, no matter what their budget.

Top Mpumalanga Attractions

Take in the stunning, spectacular views during a trip to the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, where panoramic scenery and geological phenomena can be witnessed at first hand.

South Africa's largest game reserve, Kruger National Park, offers days of stunning big game safari experiences.

The only such sanctuary in South Africa, Chimpanzee Eden, allows visitors to see these fascinating primates in a natural habitat.

Mpumalanga Hotels

In the luxurious hotels of the game reserves, guests will feel pampered and safe whilst being close up to nature red in tooth and claw. Mpumulanga accommodation spans the range from luxury through to budget, with cheap hotels in Mpumalanga being an attractive option for families. Bed and breakfast accommodation is plentiful throughout the region, as are guest houses of all standards, and backpackers are not forgotten with a variety of cheap hostel options.

Festivals and Events

The annual Dulstroom Winter Festival runs for nine days in the winter and features an array of music, arts activities and outdoor activities, creating a Christmas themed event in the middle of June. Visitors will find plenty of opportunity for food, beer and wine tasting. The Yellow Arum Lilly Festival takes place in spring every year at Roosenakaal, a little village that is the only place this rare and beautiful protected species is found.
