Summerstrand Guide

Summerstrand is an up-market beachfront suburb in Port Elizabeth. It is close to the oceanarium, the city centre, the golf course, shopping centre, the casino complex and the beachfront. The airport is ten minutes away. Accommodation, such as economic bed and breakfasts to good quality guesthouses and sophisticated hotels, allow a visitor to be near the beaches. Summerstrand accommodation offers a convenient base to explore other exciting destinations, both cultural and wild.

Top Summerstrand Attractions

The Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World has a 24-hour casino, four hotels, dining bars, a cinema, shops, children's entertainment and amphitheatre. It is set among beautiful gardens and manmade lakes.

The Donkin Heritage Trail is five kilometres long and winds through the city. Hikers can admire historical attractions on the way.

Happy Valley has shady trees, landscaped lawns, water features and lily ponds, and showcases popular children's characters such as Harry Potter, Shrek and Winnie the Pooh.

EzamaXhosa displays genuine handmade Eastern Cape craft such as traditional clothing, cards, bags, walking sticks, cutlery, wooden carvings, table linen, cushions, beadwork and pottery. The shop opened in December of 2002 with only nine crafters. There are now 145 local and also rural area crafters from the Eastern Cape who supply their wares to the shop to sell. Their traditional clothing is proving so popular that extra space in the shop is needed for catering to demands.
